Paraguay residency from the UK is open to any British citizen, and we handle the whole process for you from Asunción. Brexit changed nothing here: for Paraguayan immigration a British passport is treated like any other non-MERCOSUR nationality.
The base residency package — temporary residency plus your cédula (national ID) — starts at $1,600, in English.
What a British applicant needs
- Documents from the UK. A birth certificate and an ACRO police certificate (or a basic DBS), each apostilled.
- The apostille. The UK is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention; the FCDO Legalisation Office apostilles UK documents. This is the step people most often get wrong.
- Sworn certified translations into Spanish.
- Economic solvency under Resolución DNM 407/2026, in force since 6 July 2026.
How Paraguay residency from the UK works
- We validate your documents first, before you pay for apostilles and translations.
- You travel to Paraguay and we file with you. The base package is built around two short trips, or one longer trip; a single visit is possible with the One Trip add-on on the pricing page.
- You receive temporary residency and your cédula, valid up to two years and renewable.
- Optional: RUC (tax ID), a tax-residency certificate, company formation and a local bank account.
- Permanent residency is converted in the three months before the temporary card expires.
The tax question for UK leavers
Paraguayan residency and Paraguayan tax residency are two different things, and neither ends your UK tax position by itself. Whether you remain UK tax resident is decided by HMRC's Statutory Residence Test — days spent in the UK and your ties — not by holding a Paraguayan cédula. We handle the Paraguayan side and are explicit about what it settles; take UK tax advice for your own position. See also our agency page for Europeans.
What it costs
From $1,600 for the base package (temporary residency + cédula). Add-ons are priced individually and billed once; Paraguayan government fees are included in the package. Full breakdown on the pricing page.
Common questions
- Can a UK citizen get residency in Paraguay after Brexit?
- Yes. Brexit changed nothing for Paraguayan immigration — a British passport is treated like any other non-MERCOSUR nationality on the ordinary residency route. You need your birth certificate and an ACRO police certificate, apostilled and translated.
- How do I apostille UK documents for Paraguay?
- The UK is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention; the FCDO Legalisation Office apostilles UK documents. A missing or wrong apostille is the most common reason a file is rejected.
- Does Paraguayan residency end my UK tax residency?
- Not by itself. Whether you remain UK tax resident is decided by HMRC’s Statutory Residence Test — days in the UK and your ties — not by holding a Paraguayan cédula. We handle the Paraguayan side; take UK advice for your own position.
